California Rafting and Whitewater Rafting Trips on the American River

Since 1982, as one of the original of the California white water rafting trips companies, Mariah Wilderness Expeditions has explored all the best river destinations for rafting in California. We’re proud to say that we offer half-day to three-day whitewater adventures on six different California rivers, including the American River, as well as trips for the beginner, more eager, and very experienced rafter.

Did you know that white water rafting on the American River and Sacramento are less than 40 miles apart, San Francisco is only 2.5 hours away, and Lake Tahoe is 2 hours away. The Merced and the Tuolumne are near Yosemite. The Kings is near Fresno.

We offer nearly a dozen different rafting trips on the classic " Beginner Level (great for kids, families, & first-time rafters", Class III South Fork American River. The Middle Fork American river is our "Intermediate Level", Class II-IV+ river. Advanced rafters will enjoy the Class IV+ North Fork American River. If you are traveling in Yosemite, hop on the Class III-IV Merced River that winds through pine forests and a deep gorge. The Class III Kings River is a high desert river whose banks are lined with cottonwood trees. The Class IV Tuolumne River is another classic, considered to have one of the top ten rapids in the United States. The Upper Tuolumne known as Cherry Creek is a solid Class V.

Take advantage of our large, comfortable base camp on the shores of the South Fork American River and enjoy an evening of wine tasting during hors d'oeuvres and dinner, gather around the campfire and sleep under the stars, or in one of our unique tent-cabins; play volleyball, horseshoes and Ping-Pong, and enjoy a hot shower. Special Family Vacations, and special Winery Tour and Rafting trips are fun and exciting. Our Family with Kids trips are super fun for kids, and they get to come for half-price.

The South Fork American is 21 miles long and excellent as an introductory-intermediate river. The Middle Fork American is 18 miles long and is well known for its intermediate-level rapids, including the famous Tunnel Chute.
